Music Monday(on a Tuesday) Christmas songs that make me think

14 Dec

So, I totally forgot that yesterday was Monday. Or rather I forgot to post for Music Monday. Either way, I didn’t want to miss out on sharing some of my favorite Christmas songs with you.

I have a confession to make: I am so not in the Christmas mood. This has been a year full of ups and downs, and I think it’s just finally gotten to me. So much that I toyed with the idea of not getting a tree or decorating at all. We’re struggling a bit financially right now and it’s going to be a slim Christmas, present wise. I know as a 37 year old woman that it shouldn’t bother me, but it does, just a bit.

I also know I have to snap out of it and not get sucked into the unbelievable commercialism of Christmas. It’s hard though, isn’t it? And I think it’s the commercialism that stresses a lot of us out this time of year.

So today I’m sharing three of my favorite Christmas songs that always make me think and help me gain a bit of perspective.

I’ve always loved this song, but this is the first year that I think I really listened to the words and identified with them. It’s a sad little song about being disillusioned with Christmas, but there’s also a hint of hope in it, too.

I’m sorry, I don’t care how many times they redo this, the original is the best and kicked off the music industry’s involvement with world hunger.

The first Christmas gift I ever received from a boy was in grade 7 and came with a card that said “Happy Christmas”.  This is another song that’s been redone by everyone, but the original will always be the best.

I LOVE BandAid! There can’t be any Christmas without it or it won’t be Christmas. Transports me back to the eighties right away — and that’s a good thing 🙂 Except for some ultra melancholic feelings… :\

John Lennon & Yoko is one of my early 7 inches too btw!

I’m sorry to hear that you’re not in x-mas mood yet. Me neither, but that’s normal 😉 I’m guessing it’ll happen for me when we get our rental tree (as I said before). I hope you won’t give in to not decorating, because THAT definitely won’t help! Maybe some early Christmas baking will do the trick? The smell of baking does wonders and it doesn’t have to be expensive. And then there’s the good part afterwards… eating! 🙂

I wish there was something I could do to make you feel better! 😦 I hope it’ll all pass soon.

BTW you didn’t mention one of the items in your tweet about the grocery bag exchange… I’m wondering whether you didn’t find it? 😮

We actually got out our Christmas decorations a couple of days ago only to discover that what was suitable for the apartment is kind of sparse in the house. So we’re going shopping later today for more decorations. And we’re going to cut down our tree, too.

Hmm, I don’t remember what I mentioned in the tweet. (I will be doing my post tomorrow) The bookmark? Or licorice candy?

Phew. You did find the bookmark. 🙂

Good thing you’re decorating. Hope it’ll help.
