Today is my 3rd wedding anniversary and my husband is on the other side of the country, working. This is a poem I wrote about his leaving. Happy anniversary babe. Love you.
In the back of the pick-up truck
the wind whips my hair
into tangles.
You laugh as we bump along,
eyes never leaving my chest.
My gum grows stale as I enjoy
the sun beating down
on my shoulders and the top
of my head.
Neither of us think about tomorrow
when you head out to greener fields.
Instead we struggle to hold on
to the ease of the moment
the now of the truck.
Knowing after a tumbling
night you’ll be up and gone
and I won’t make your side
of the bed while you’re away
remembering your form.

Wow. Love the last line. Here’s to many more years!
Thanks Amanda! I’ve just recently started sharing my writing, so it can be a bit, I don’t know, “EEEK!” if you know what I mean. :0)
I must agree with Amanda…the final line was just so beautiful to me. Kudos!
Ah, thanks!
